EXCELLENT ACCORDIONS IF YOU CAN FIND ONE....I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE CHEAP CHINESE MADE HOHNER LOOK-ALIKE..

I'M TALKING ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BEFORE THE GABBANELLI'S TOOK OVER THE COMPANY.

THE ONE'S YOU SEE ON OLD LP COVERS OF LOS RELAMPAGOS, CARLOS Y JOSE. LOS INVASORES, LOS CACHORROS, ALL THE BIG NAMES AT ONE POINT PLAYED OR RECORDED WITH SANTA MARSALA ACCORDION..

THEY DON'T LOOK AS FANCY ON THE OUTSIDE LIKE TODAY'S ACCORDIONS BUT MAN THEY ARE LOUD! REEDS THAT WERE MADE TO LAST!

OVERALL, EXCELLENT ACCORDIONS

LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK IF YOU GUYS OWN ONE OR HAVE PLAYED ONE

I want one!!!!!!!!!!!  I love those, man.  Those babies were made to last big time.  I'll pay however much it takes for one of those.

Gold 1960s Santa Marsala - like vintage cars, they don't make them like they use to.

GILBERT: I read/viewed your article where Ayala/Vela/Villarreal were all with Santa Marsala accordions during their youth. Now they are all using Gabbanellis????Chuco

Chuco,

These accordions are no longer made. They were commissioned by the Santa Marsala brand to be made by Gabbanelli back in the day 50s-60s?. Similar to what Elio Gabbnelli is doing today making accordions for other companies using their own brand name. Somewhere along the way Gab kept the original grille design and now started coming out with the retro look. If you look at album covers by Ramon Ayala in the early 70s, you will see the same Santa Marsala design, but with the Gabbanelli logo instead of Santa Marsala. I have a few pics I will post later. The retro grille V shape was abandoned I would say in the mid 70s, but not sure. Perhaps Glenn can shed some light on this!

Chuco,
Here is a picture of an old Santa Marsala model with the Gabbanelli name on it. From the early 70s.

Just for the record..and in reference to styles and copyrights...

The retro Santa Marsala grille is not really a Santamarsala grille..but was a widely used grille design in Castelfidardo in the 60's ( used on Soprani and Gabbanelli and many others makes ).

The eagle grilles are widespread on many models by many makers.. as are other aesthetic features such as engraving patterns..many of which are not copyrighted.

GILBERT/NICKCHAIN/DAVID: You are of the very best. I appreciate your response to my question. I had the opportunity,  having  picked up the accordion during the 50s, to have acquired at least one of each of the great brands of that era.

The price,  then, would have been so very affordable.  My collection instinct didn't kick in until I reached the age of 60. For shame!!!

If I were lucky enough to obtain such accordions now, I would have to wait till I win the lottery, lol....Chuco

hello to all in my years of plaing the accordion:  I have to say that the santa marcela accordion is very good, but the old one's the gold colored ones why because the nephew who plays accordion for our group has one 3 switch.  Eventhough it is old that accordion is still playing.  They are a little bit more heavier but stronger in sound and resistance so I give it a 5 all around.  thank you and GOD BLESS YOU ALL

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL

I recall the first time I saw a box like those,it was in the early 60's,in those years both marks,Santa Marsala and Gabbanelli were identical in all the details......
For my,they both deserve five in the score.....

Santamarsalas were built by Ubaldo Gabbanelli . . . and were identical to old Gabbies . The grille is NOT unique to the Santamarsala, as it was used on other makes and not exclusively or even first on Santas..

They are pretty boxes..and the old ones ( like the vintage gabbies ) have a deep sound you don't hear too much on newer accordions.

IF ITS A 3 SWITCH AND THE RIGHT BUYER COMES ALONG YOU MIGHT GET $1,800

A 5 SWITCH EASILY $2000 .  ASSUMING ITS IN MINT CONDITION AS YOU SAY.

BOTH THE BODY AND THE REEDS.
