Hi y'all,

David has pushed new versions of all the Hohner Android apps to the Google Play Store today that should address the usability of the apps on the smaller screen devices like the Samsung Galaxy SIII.

Here's what's new:

New "Normal/Wide" display option to switch between letterbox and
stretching the app to fill the entire display. This increases the
button touch area and make the app easier to play particularly on
smaller screen devices.  Depending on the size and aspect ratio of the
screen on your device, the Wide display mode compared to Normal may
result in slightly oval button images.

Improved button touch detection, particularly for the smaller screen
phone devices like the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Other bug fixes and performance improvements.

The updates, which are all version 1.2, should be available later today (Monday, Nov 5).

For those of you with Android phones who have the app, I'd really appreciate hearing from you after installing the new update since we have only a very limited number of phones models available to test on.

So far so good, a report from a friend with a Samsung Galaxy SIII:

Sounding good so far on 1.2:

Me: How's the latency?

Sol: Enough latency so you notice there's latency, but no more than that.

Sol: I must say, it seems a lot more stable than it did when I tried
it two weeks ago.

Sol: I haven't had any stability issues at all yet on this release.

Me: Thanks Sol! I appreciate the report very much.

Sol No prob!

Hi y'all,

Just wanted to let you know that we're absolutely listening to suggestions on how to improve the apps on Android!

One of the big differences between iOS and Android is that the iPad has a 4:3 aspect ratio (think old-style TV) and most Android devices are 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio (like HDTV).

I thought the widescreen mode would help, but we realized that we could do better!

For the next updates of all the apps (version 1.3), we're optimizing the graphics to give as large a button size as we can on the typical Android 16:9 aspect ratio display used on the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Tab devices.

Here's a example of how it will look on a 16:9 device, taken from the upcoming 1.3 version graphics. We've scaled down the grill/bellows and given more room for the buttons. There also will no longer be a Normal/Wide switch.

Cheers,

Michael

Hi y'all,

Update version 1.3 with the new 16:9 optimized graphics for Samsung Galaxy S2/3 and Galaxy Tab (and essentially all Android 16:9 or 16:10 screen) devices  is now on the Google Play Store!

Those of you with the apps should all visit the Google Play Store and download your free updates!

Cheers and thanks,

Michael
