Wanted to let everyone here know about a Bajoquinto maker I found in Paracho Michoacán. His name is Juan Carlos Morales and he makes BEAUTIFUL Bajoquinto's at a very affordable price. This quinto is awesome. The price for this one is was between 15000 to 18000 pesos I believe , but he is flexible on pricing. The basic models which are made from piñabete run somewhere along the lines of 10,000 pesos which is roughly $550. That is a bargain at that price. This one is palo escrito tinto and it sounds and plays very very good. I checked out a couple of Pasayes before having this one made. And I'm not going to say that the Morales bajos are "better"... but I payed half the price for a bajo that looks, sounds, and plays just as good as any Pasaye I've ever played. Like I said, the word "better" is very subjective. But wow! This bajo really does impress me. I play it every day and I honestly struggle to put it down. Homerun all the way. Check out his Facebook page at Morales Bajo quintos. The shipping from Michoacán to Tijuana with a case was roughly around $140 but still worth the money.
