i am brand new to the button accordion bought a gcf hohner panther. i have been messing around and playing a piano accordion by ear for years but tejano and mexican music is more my style so i converted . i want to learn to read music so i will be able to play anything. But for now i will use the tab method i learned about on this forum. Do any of you accordion brothers and sisters out there know the tab method or a website or video that will show me how to play the chicken dance? ive looked all over the internet but can only find the chicken dance on a piano accordion. Is it playable on a gcf button box? I would like to learn it by christmas to play it for the kids at the family gathering . Thankyou PS; this is my first post and 2nd day on this site .

Can you place a sample of the version you want and I'll see if I can help you out.  A youtube link would help or any other link with the version you're looking for.

I'll try to get Tania to comment since she also plays the piano and button accordion and she has mentioned playing the chicken dance before.

Amusingly enough, I was just browsing and saw this comment, and then logged in and saw the PM. I did attempt to play the chicken dance on GCF, but didn't learn the entire thing. Here's the question - are you interested in playing it with or without the basses? Without the basses will be very easy, with the basses will be a little more of a challenge. I feel like I remember encountering a problem with finding a note on the push. There is exactly one sharp in the song, haha. Let me know and I'll learn it.

tania , no i did not learn the song with the basses just the melody / i do love the basses but they are very different from the piano accordion i played by ear for years . i am learning where they are but the lay out is very different. however unless there is band accompanyment , i think the melodies are always richer and full sounding with the basses. Ive had people tell me that if im going to learn tejano or tex mex style music, that i should remove the basses , but i cannot phathom it.

I think maybe if button accordions had a stradella bass like the piano accordion, a lot more people would be inclined to use them. That would also make it a lot heavier. But since there's only 12, you're pretty limited in what you can do, and then you also have to factor in the push/pull. Well, it's a lot harder to learn anyway. I'll see if I can learn it with the basses though, but there is one note I think I'll have to improvise.

Here's the problem with the bass on the button accordion - you can't do a contrabass. (C, C chord, G, C chord, C, etc) you can only do C, C chord, C, C chord and it doesn't sound right.
