Claudio Beltrami, the builder

The Beltrami emblem

Detail of a Beltrami accordion

In his shop in Stradella: Peter, shopkeeper, Claudio,
Glenn

Claudio with one of his diatonic accordions.

One of his workbenches

His compact piano accordion. The bass layout was invented
in Stradella in 1920 and to this day this type of bass is called a
"Stradella bass". In the forties the first Freebass accordions
were built in Stradella, too.

Glenn Allessi tries out one of his French boxes.

Claudio´s new Irish model

Claudio with another of his diatonic models

Four reed model These boxes are without guts, Claudio
builds them to the liking of his clients - you can choose type of
reeds (normal, tipo a mano, handmade), style of tuning, key, two tone
etc.

Three reed model

Three sets of reeds for the middle row of a three
reed box.

The basses for a three row accordion

A reed block set up by Claudio

Reedplates, valves, reeds

The buffing room

Working on the action of a Corona II

Glenn likes how Claudio beltramisated the action.

Claudio took us to a nice restaurant in the Stradella
area. In Italy it´s still slow food, it was mushroom season...

That´s me on "aircordion". In a time when "air
guitarists" get more attention than real guitarists, it´s
the proper move for the accordionist, too - fear not...

The old Dallepe factory. In a time, when the accordion
ruled, 1200 workers were employed in the accordion business, now it´s
maybe 10 or 12.

Dallepe factory in Stradella.

To give you an idea where
accordion manufacturies are located, here´s a Google earth photo
of Europe.

Northern Italy, where Claudio
Beltrami lives, is one of the busiest places in Europe.

In nearby
Modena are Ferrari, Lamborghini und Maserati (Monza and Imola are
in the neighbourhood) located and the famous balsamico vinegar is
made there.

In Parma you have Parma ham, Parmesan cheese and Aqua
di Parma,

The list goes on: in Turino: Fiat,

Vicenca: Campagnolo,

Milano: Armani, Dolce e Gabbana, Versace, Bianchi bikes,

Bologna:
the oldest university of the world,

Cremona: center of violin making,
of Stradivari fame.

Nice Pics!!!

Nice to see that Reyes members from different countries are joining together.

Very informative!!!

What was done to tweak the action on the on the Blue Corona II Classic?

I guess we Americans from the Southwest region get to see and hear all the great Conjuntos and Norteno groups often, but you members over in Europe get to check out all the building action in person.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us members on the other side of the pond.

The Corona: The action was a bit noisy, so Claudio fixed that. He always finds a way to tweak things in the right way.

I´ve got two Coronas II that were tweaked and tuned by him (GCF & ADG, thanks Glenn for letting these go) and these accordions have more in common with nightingales than with squeeze boxes.
