Flaco Jimenez retires his "first" Pearl Orange Hohner Accordion and donated it to Hohner, Inc. where it will be on display in Glen Allen, Virginia. The accordion is the one he used for this famous picture back in the mid 90s and used it for numerous recordings with The Texas Tornados, Freddy Fender, Dwight Yokum, Alan Jackson, Tomas Ortiz (Alegres de Teran), Willie Nelson, and many other conjunto and country greats. This accordion has been around the world.

Wow!  That is a piece of history and I am glad to see that it will be displayed at Hohner's museum since this is the place where it belongs.

I know there is one of Flaco's accordions on display in Bakersfield, Ca at Buck Owens place, but this pearl orange has had an interesting life.

Good to see that Hohner is preserving and recognizing the legacy of these maestros.

That is the very accordion Flaco did his recordings with on my cd, which was recorded last November in The Netherlands. I had the oppotunity to play it two days before the recordings, when I met my "Master" backstage at the "End-concert" of Rowwen Heze. It was awesome and Flaco liked it all. Max Baca joined me playing his bajo sexto, so we had a little party. I hope people do understand that this instrument is a relic already.

You can tell this accordion was taken for a ride by looking at the bellows. Very nice!

There is a fairly new DVD of Flaco, available from Q Productions, 5410 Leopard, Corpus Christi, TX 78408, http://www.q-productions.com, filmed last year on a sound stage in Corpus.  Flaco and his band are in top form and I highly recommend it.  His accordion in the video looks like the one above.

Very pretty accordion indeed. When I was in south Texas 2- 3 years ago I went  to eat at a Mexican food restaurant and lo and behold there on one of the walls was displayed a white Gabbannelli that  was retired by MR. Ramon Ayala.!!

That is a beautiful accordion. I wish I had gotten into conjunto music 10 maybe 20 years earlier than I did so I could see Flaco play more. I hear that Flaco will be playing a concert in Los Angeles in August. I hope I get a chance to see him play. And maybe I can get him to sign my Hohner Corona II Classic.
