It would be cool if we would have an option to label the keys with the "tab" method numeration in addition to the note labels that are currently available. I've thought about putting stickers on my actual accordion buttons so I know which keys to hit when learning a song using tabs but I don't want to do that to my accordion. I would however love to see that option available on my iPad app.
Just a suggestion!
By the way, the iPad app has been instrumental in learning how to play. I practice on it while my wife watches tv before we go to sleep and she doesn't hear a thing, except for my fingers tapping on the glass iPad screen:-)!
Thanks for such a great application!

I labeled every third vertical button, with just a dot of nail polish. After you play for a while you will get used to it and if you play enough the nail polish will wear off. I did this on my real accordion not the ipad. hope it helps.

Stickers or tape will work on your real accordion. You can easily remove them when you're done. It is a great idea for it to be an option on the app. Something you can turn on and off at your discretion.

If you look at the fifth section of the form titled Music theory, tabs, faq's, lyrics you'll see the section on the "tab" method of learning songs. It's quite simple.
You would label the keys on the app this way:

GCF App
F row: f1, f2, f,3....all the way to f10
C row: c1, c2, c3...all the way to c11
G row: g1, g2, g3...all the way to g10

That's it!

Feel free to call or email if you have any other questions.

Would you leave the labels the same for push and pull?

In my opinion it wouldn't be necessary to label them different but you could label the push in parenthesis.
The push/pull on a tabbed song is indicated as follows:

G3 = Pull
(G3) = Push

I think either way would be ok.

Does the 31-button iPad app layout exactly match the notes used by the tablature? It would be a disaster if I added the new labels as an option only to find out that there was some mismatch. I'm guessing it's fine, but would someone please verify and let me know. I think it would be a great addition to the iPad apps.

I believe they do match but I would like for someone else to verify. Anyone?

Done!  I've added tablature display to all the 31-button iPad apps in the 2.2 release submitted this morning to Apple for approval.

Assuming no issues in review, should be out as a free update for current users by Feb 12.

I've attached screen shots of the new feature. Now, the "?" cycles between no labels, note names, and tablature labels.  On a push all the tablature labels switch to the (G1) tab style with surrounding parenthesis.

I had to down-res the screenshots to add as attachments to this posting (the board has a size limit) if they seem a bit blurry, don't worry, the app graphics are crystal clear.

Cheers and thanks for the suggestion.  I think this will be very useful to a lot of players!

Michael

You're most welcome! I've been playing some songs out of the tablature collection this morning to try it out, really great fun.

Just got word from Apple that all five updates with the new tablature labeling option were approved and now available on the iTunes App Store.

Check in iTunes on your PC/Mac or in the App Store on our iPad/iPad2 to get the free updates.

Cheers and thanks,

Michael
