New York

Right in the middle of New York where everything is happening, Alex's Musical Instruments is located on 165 W 48th Street In an old historical building. The accordion store front is on the 2nd floor and the repair dept on the 3rd floor. Alex Carozza is originally from Argentina and has been selling and repairing accordions for over 40 years. Working with him are some incredible individuals who have a lot of history in accordion and guitar building. Pasquale Ficocecco has been working on accordions for more than 65 years and his grandfather worked with Paolo Soprani in Castelfidardo, Italy back in the early 1900s. Below you will see an accordion that Pasquale's grandfather made in 1923 in Italy. Carlos Greco has been making guitars for over 60 years and below you will see a guitar that he is making for Alex. What was interesting to see, Carlos carves out the back and top of the guitar. I had never seen this process before. According to Carlos, this is the way guitars were made back in the day when they did not have modern tools to cut wood. Alex Musical Instruments is also a museum of accordions made from all over the world including accordion makers from the New York area in the last turn of the century.  If you ever get a chance to visit NY, go see Alex.  He is fluent in Spanish and has a lot of knowledge on all makes of accordions and accordion history.

GILBERT, thanks for sharing..I have been to Manhattan twice/an awe inspiring great city. The first time we stayed in a hotel next to Central Park/the second time we stayed in Staten Island.

As a child, New York was only a wish, never ever thinking of ever being there. Well, because of my work in D.C., I was able to travel to most parts of our great country.

Who would have thought, at that time, early 70s,  that a city as great as New York City would have had our great instruments? But then again, our accordion is as Santa Claus, they are everywhere, lol..

Again, thanks for sharing, have a great life, Chuco

Sometimes living in my own little world I forget how big the world realy is and all of the places and things I have yet to see.   These are incredible photos and you have an incredible eye for this.  Great photo journalism if you ask me.

These are so Cool!!!

I've only been to NYC a couple of times in my life, but to see the lights at Christmas time & all the windows & displays- is just the best.  It makes me feel like a little kid; so much excitement.
Thanks for posting Gilberto!

Alex Music does not have a website.  But you can reach Alex at 212-819-0071 or ask for Juan Carlos.  Hablan espanol.  Tell them you are a friend of Gilbert Reyes from Hohner since they are not into computers and not familiar with this site. Accordiing to Gil, they do business the old fashion way.
