RAMIRO, you are so right in your surmising. Flaco/Mingo/Ruben/Valerio/Tony and many other Mexican Americans have/had been playing for eons and for what? Una miseria.

Ayala/Los Alegres De Teran/Tigres/Huracanes and all others from Mexico, are multi millionaires and they keep on making the bread. You should see their properties here and in Mexico. You should also see how their instruments travel, in semis. Why? Because they are supported not only by Mexican Americans but by all of Mexico and South America.

Our Mexican American musicians are lucky if we, Mexican Americans buy some of their efforts. Their instruments travel by small vans. I have seen some of their properties and they amount to what I have, and I am on a fixed income, lol..

Do not misunderstand me, I am just stating facts as I see them. I am not putting our countrymen down for they are exemplary in their great music.  Chuco

Very very good documental,

As a Mexican born, American grown; I really enjoy this music. My Dad use to litsen to all this polkas every day and play some of them as well.

All of us, Mexicans, Chicanos, Tejanos, Pochos etc, etc. Should feel really really blessed to be part of such beautiful music.

Arriba El Norte!
Arriba Tejas!
Arriba Mexico!

Hello forum members,

I am very glad that this documentary has reached the forum.

During a gig with my band Nieuwe Helden in The Netherlands we met Rob Boonzajer and we came to speak. He requested us to play a polka tejana and he told us about the film he shot in Texas and Austria in the eighties.

We figured that this could be very interesting and historic footage.
A few weeks later on our way to another gig we visited Rob Boonzajer in his house. He lent us the only copy that he had on a VHS video tape. A friend of mine converted the tape into a digital video file. Jan-Paul van der Hoeven, the bass player of Nieuwe Helden, then put the the documentary in seven parts on YouTube.

The documentary was filmed with a anthropological kind of view as a project of Amsterdam University.
Some artist that appear in the film are Flaco Jimenez, Valerio Longoria, Toby Torres, Salvador Garcia and Eddie Lalo Tores.

As far as I know it cannot be purchased anywhere.
However, on request of forum members I could sent one or more copies to Gilbert Reyes.
