Hey Gilbert -

Yi, that's great stuff!  And it sounds very good on my computer, nice production.  I really appreciate you sharing the rare sounds you have in your vintage collection.  Stay in that garage and keep pumping it out.  You should get a show on Radio Bilingüe.

Thanks again,

John

I'm glad you like the program. This first one was just a test. We will have 10 to 12 song programs in the future. We will also be promoting record labels like Chief Records (Santiago Jimenez) and Arhoolie Records (Chris Strachwitz), to name a couple, in order to bring you a more diverse collection. Chris from Arhoolie records has has a vast collection of vintage LPs, 78s, and 45s. He purchased the rights to Del Rio Records, Ideal, and has most of the masters for Falcon and a number of other record labels that flourished in Texas in the 50, 60s & 70s. The collection is in the thousands. With Chris' permission, we will be showcasing Ideal recordings since he owns these rights. Santiago Jiemnez ownes the rights to a lot of his father's music Don Santiago Jimenez Jr. With his permission, we will be bringing you some vintage Santiago Jimenez Sr and Jr as well. We will also be showcasing Reyes Accordions' collection.

Good stuff Gilbert! It does sound very good. Any chance you have some old stuff from Flaco Jimenez as featured on Chulas Fronteras? Thanks for the box

Saludos Amigos!

I do have a lot of LPs and 45s.  As a matter of fact, I have every possible recording Flaco ever made.  Sorry for the delay on getting some more stuff on the broadcasting section.  I have been extremely busy these past six months that I have not had the time to work on these simple projects.  I should be done with Juan Villareal's stuff soon.

Gracias for your support.

Gilbert

Hello Gilbert,

Thank you very much for providing this great music.  I spent New Years at home with my family listening to your broadcast.  It was great.  I had never heard of Manuel Guerrero but was impressed.  His playing style kind of reminds me of Juan Torres of Los Tremendos Gavilanes.

I hope you and your family are doing well with the storms and all and that your father is doing better.  I didn't catch the date of the broadcast but heard that your father was feeling a little under the weather.

Can't wait until the next show.

Ricardo

If you listen closely to Manuel, he sounds just like Flaco Jimenez.  There is a debate that either Manuel copied Flaco's style, or the other way around.  These two guys are from San Antonio and both grew up playing together in the same clubs.  I have never heard this other guy that you guys are mentioning.  Is he from Texas?

Flaco was hugely influenced by the playing of Manuel Guerrero, who was much better known at the time in San Antonio and who was a big influence on a whole generation of accordionists. You can hear Guerrero's influence on Flaco 's playing very clearly, he definitely modeled his playing on him.  Guerrero played with Toby Torres in a band called Los Arcos before Toby and Flaco played together.  The way I've heard the story, Guerrero was career military and was then stationed in Europe and so was less known later because of that. Flaco played a lot at clubs etc when he was young but achieved his initial real fame outside of San Antonio with all of his brilliant stuff with other musicians, and then he got the attention he deserved back in SA.
