This is Flaco Jimenez and I would like to first thank Gilbert Reyes for doing what he does in the accordion world. This community is amazing and it is nice to see that there is a new generation of accordion players who are incredible. For all of you who are starting out in learning how to play the accordion, don’t give up. Delen ganas! There is nothing more beautiful in the world than the ability to make some music on the accordion. I’m thankful everyday for this gift that I don’t deserve, making music en mi acordeon.

I would also like to tell all of you that my grandfather as well as my father played Hohner accordions. And I’m no different than any other musician, we like to try out accordions that are given to us and we play them once in a while. But the fact of the matter is, as much as I tried playing other brands of accordions, it did not feel right. It did not give me the alegria and the feel that Hohner has given my all of these years.
People have seen me with other accordions and they think I endorse other products, but I don’t. For the record, I have a contract with Hohner, Inc and will only support and endorse Hohner accordions until I’m ready to leave this world. I will probably take my Hohner with me.

Keep up the great work all of you are doing and don’t give up. Si se puede!

Flaco

Welcome Mr. Jimenez.

This is indeed a great community.  We hope you will be proud to know that there are many talented musicians here who have been inspired by you to play accordion and continue this tradition.  You certainly deserve to play whatever accordion you want, and I'm sure you will.

Thanks again for visiting,  you are of course welcome here ANY time.

Maestro,

Thank you for your words and for joining our Reyes community.  Indeed your words of wisdom and encouragement is appreciated.  As John pointed out, you are an incredible ambassador for cojunto music around the world.  It is your humbleness that raises you above all other accordionist.  It amazes me how you always talk highly of all other accordion players and never expect any accolades for yourself.  Many can play a hundred notes in one measure, but few can play a few notes with heart and soul.

Con respeto,

Gilberto

Welcome Mr. Jimenez, I play the bajo sexto, but my Dad and brother both play the accordion. They have always stated many times that the Hohner sound just can't be equaled. The others may be flashier, but as far as sound goes; where it REALLY counts, they haven't got anything on a Hohner. Welcome to the forum and may the Lord continue to bless you so you can keep on squeezing on.

Maestro Jimenez,
To be honest with you that up until 3 yrs ago I was not a Flaco fan. This had to do with mainly the environment and locatoin I was raised around. However since I have had the pleasure of seeing you perform in person, I can really appreciate your talent and more important your love for your PEOPLE.
I can truly see that you are a very humble person and have dedicated your life to your art. Hope God rewards you many more years here on earth. But when the day comes, I know we can look up and see you playing your Hohner in "Hohner Heavens". Wow "Hohner Heavens" sounds like a new Flaco Jimenez hit song.

Gracias Maestro

What an honor to be in the presence of such a legend.  Flaco, you are number one in my book.  Just taking the time to write to us tells a lot about you and we appreciated it.  Many great musicians think they are above everyone and they do not take the time to talk to their fans.  However, I always heard that you take the time to talk and listen to those who admire you and support you.

Que Viva Flaco Jimenez!

Flaco, hope you will post often on these forums.  You truly are the ambassador of conjunto.  It was you who spurred my interest in TexMex music quite a few years ago when you formed the Texas Tornados with Augie, Doug & Freddy.  Nice to see you playing with Shawn now.

Super Cool!  My best friend growing up was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1987 and his father who passed away in 2005 always tried to do little things for us (friends of his son) to keep us out of trouble. Around 1997 i remember being at his home visiting and he wanted us to watch a video he had of The Texas Tornadoes on tv. I wasn't really into norteno music that much and new nothing about conjunto but in all honesty i can point to that one day as the day i fell in love with the accordion. You are one of the true Greats for more reasons than your music. I also wish to thank Gilberto Reyes for this invaluable website he created that makes connecting with the rest of the Accordion World possible.

The way I see it Flaco, you finally had time to relax, sit down before a computer and show us your appreciation, but we appreciate you double. I could say 100% of the forum admires you because you are world-renown by us oldies and the youngsters of course. We understand your time limitations due to your busy schedule. Take care so that you will continue expanding your musical influence with such energy.

My whole interest in  Norteno and Diatonic accordions started back when I lived in Arizona.. later when I heard Flaco once on a radio here in Italy.. I stopped everthing.. and said this is what I have to do .. this is the music I've been looking for.

The song was Viva Seguin.. played on the Ry Cooder album.

I have heard several other players who experienced that same moment.. that musical epiphany.. hearing that same song, on the same LP.

Without Flaco's family tradition and his stylized playing, Conjunto I feel, would have remained much more insular and regional..instead Flaco welcomed all the non-Tejanos.. without compromising his roots.

I've had the priviledge of meeting and chatting with Flaco at length on a few occasions.. ( several times with Oscar Telles .. in the 80's and 90's ).. and seeing him play in 3 countries !  ( Ireland, Italy twice, USA ).. unforgettable experiences.

He remains the musical common denominator for many of us here on the Reyes Forum.. and personally I have to thank him for radically re-directing my musical orientations, tastes, and raising my  standards.

Btw in Italy in the 80's .. finding a Hohner Corona was impossible.. I special ordered one from a harmonica distributer.. and it cost $1,250 in the 1980s !

Gracias Flaco !  . . and thanks Hohner !

Glenn

Don Flaco Jimenez,

This is exactly what I experienced when I first heard you perform on the Chulas Fronteras documentary - and went on to experience through your recordings I've collected over the years. I can say that this mission of making music that makes people feel good has definitely been felt - so, you have accomplished this without a doubt. This is what motivated me to learn to play the accordion, and it continues to motivate me, even now.

Thank you for the music and inspiration that have contributed positively not only the conjunto music world, but beyond.

Mr. Flaco Jimenez-

such a wonderful honor to see you here on the forum-
I have loved your music for many years like so many others here and
you did much to get me going with loving all the conjunto and
norteño music and wanting to learn the buttons on the accordion-
I grew up far from Texas and the world of Mexican music but now it is my music too, and mi gente and I couldn't live without it.

Thank You-

Flaco, when I first heard of you was in 1999. A friend in Colombia mentioned you and told me how your technique is incredible. I took a listen at your music and was amazed! Your style of playing is inspirational, and really shows the diatonic accordion can be played more than three rows! Hopefully I can come see you here in Texas.

God bless you and your family!
