Hi all:

I have a Shure PG30 wireless mic and would like to use it on my Hohner Corona III accordions. Since I have a couple of accordions, how would I be able to use? I was thinking of using Velcro near the grill (headset piece is removed). Any tips or suggestions? Thanks.

I tried doing a Google search for Ricky Munoz's accordions, but I really couldn't come up with any really clear or obvious pictures of the mics on them.  I say this because I think he uses (or used at one point) a Crown CM311a Headset mic.  If I remember correctly, it looked as if the mic and gooseneck portion were removed from the headset and it was somehow clamped on to the grill.

Hopefully you're better at Googling than I am  , and you can get an idea of what was done.  It's basically removing the mic and gooseneck and finding a way to attach it.  Velcro would be an option since you want to remove it and replace it.

Thanks for your help. I truly appreciate it. I think I may have a solution. I'll get back to see if it works. I'll Google and see if i can find the info on Ricky Munoz. Velcro will be my best bet at this point.

I was considering this one but it's only $75 less than a Shure PGX14/BETTA87.   Don't know if I wanna make that expence for only that little difference.    The plus is that the Samson is completely wireless.  I found the Shure on Ebay for $374 new.   Just posted the website for the convenience.

I've had the Samson.  I used it for a year or so.  It's super convenient with no belt pack and wire, but the mic is not as good as the Beta 98, no question. Spend the money for the Shure if you can live with the belt pack and cable.

If you only play smaller accordions like Corona IIs its not bad, but it will struggle with bigger accordions like 3 & 4 reed boxes.  However, if a person is looking for convenience and plays Corona IIs though, they should get a Vamonos.

Perfect for me, since all I play is Corona II.   How's the quality of the Vamonos ??

Well, phase 1 is complete. I went ahead and installed the mic.

Phase 2 will be testing for feedback, sound and so forth. I'll be playing tonight.

Will post pics very soon.

Thanks guys.

Update: Feedback on PG30 for Hohner Corona III

Well, I was quite impressed with the mic!!! Sounds good and hardly any feedback. I even pushed the gain high at one time and no feedback. I played all night and no issues. The mic picks up all the notes on the accordion. I could actually hear what i was playing.

How I installed: I removed the headset part, added Velcro to the mic and accordions. I used about 2 inch strips. I stuck them on the grill without getting it on the grooves. Works fine. I pull the mic to change between songs, and no problems.

Two things to note: 1. If you don't care about Velcro on your accordion grill then I suggest it (it does look ugly when mic is not on).
2. When changing accordions one can get tangled with the mic wire. I guess just practice to get better at changing the mic from accordion to accordion.

PICS will be posted soon. Let me know if you have any questions.

Checkout pics on my setup. Mic is centered. No feedback, or other negative sounds. Thanks for the replies. If anyone has questions let me know.

Looks simple enough.      I might consider doing that.  The Velcro don't look that bad.   Great work.

Nice.  The capsule and mic element line up close to the center of the grill just about right, too.  Good work.

Thank you Skweez! I have been playing and no feedback. The good thing is you can adjust the neck of the mic away from the keyboard (sometimes the mic would be close to my fingers and affect playing). I can actually get loud without turning up the gain with this mic.
