Hi y'all,

Rather than burden the main discussion with the topics, I'm using this thread for announcements on updates for the Hohner SqueezeBox apps.

Cheers,

Michael

Hi y'all,

Just a quick update on the iOS 4.3 update progress for the pop/click issue I found after the new version of the OS was released by Apple this morning.

I was able to determine the root cause and come up with a fix that works so far very well on both iOS 4.3 as well as iOS 4.2 and all the way back to iOS 3.0 on a first generation iPod Touch.

Testing on two iPads and five iPhone/iPod Touch devices and everything looks good so far. I'll spend a couple of days continuing to test and if all goes well, will submit all the SqueezeBox update to Apple over the weekend, and they would hit the store around March 20th.

Again, this is only a concern for those who have recently updated their devices to iOS 4.3, if you haven't done that or are using an older version of the OS, then there is nothing to worry about.

Sorry for any inconvenience,

Michael

Thanks Michael,

We appreciate your diligence.  I'll hold steady with 4.2.

I'm curious though, did Apple change the DAC performance in the new update?  Did they have to change some sampling parameters perhaps to accomodate the new AirPlay features?

Apple doesn't provide detailed change logs, but I don't think DAC performance could be changed by software. For AirPlay, my understanding is that they use RTP streaming between the two devices, DAC performance would not come into play there.

I see I'm not the only music app developer running into sound issues on iOS 4.3:

I'm sure there will be lots of updates from many developers in the coming weeks.

Update 10 Mar 2011 - So far everything looks good as far as the update on iPad and 4th Gen iPod Touch running iOS4.3.

Exchanged emails with the developer at GenerativeMusic and verified that he's seeing the same thing I am in his OpenAL apps.

Still on schedule for integrating the fixes this Saturday and submitting to Apple.

Hopefully, iPad 2 won't cause more trouble, but the priority now is to get an update for the installed base of users who have upgraded to iOS4.3, and then follow-up with an iPad 2 update if it should be required.

Update 11 Mar 2011 -

Just a quick note that the 1.2 version of Hohner-Mini was approved today by Apple for the iTunes App Store and should available tonight a free update to anyone who currently has the app.

This version adds the ability to access the full 31-button fingerboard by allowing you to quickly choose the left, center, or right 25 buttons through three large on-onscreen buttons.

In the App panel of iTunes on your PC or Mac, just click on "Check for Updates" to get the new version, then sync your device. The update is currently on the store.

This update, which was submitted to Apple before iOS4.3 was released, does not include the audio fixes for 4.3.

I've submitted the iOS4.3 update tonight to Apple, look for the free update to hit the store after review by March 18th.

Cheers,

Michael

Thanks Michael!  I updated them all, and so far so good.  Everything is just as it was before.

I did the iOS 4.3 update as well.  I'll post here if I find any issues.

There are two sets of sound samples in the apps, dry (single reed) and wet (dual reed).

I have no plans to update the apps with new sounds in the future.
